Alpaca Wrangling
The beloved creatures of Urqopacha have arrived at the Shaaloani Rodeo! Canela and Maximo, two alpacas that aren't easy to please, star in their own game of herding. Unlike other herd animals, alpacas are skittish and require experienced and delicate handling.Rules: At the start of a round, two players roll /random to try and coax the alpaca where they want it to go, including flavour-text as to how their character attempts to sway the alpaca. Each player's rolls are scored independently, but are added together. The proctor tallies up the points earned by the players, and dictates the results of the round as the total number of points scored. If the score is less than 10, the players move on to the next round. The game runs for up to 5 rounds, with all points earned in previous rounds being added together with the points from current rounds. If at any point the players' points meet or exceed 10, the alpaca has been successfully wrangled into its pen. If the cumulative points don't add up to 10 at the end of the 5th round, the players fail to wrangle the alpaca, and it frolics away to await the next players.

Aroma & Agave - Wares of Whimsy
Whimsical Wares
Tucked beneath a colorful canopy of woven shadecloth and windchimes, you’ll find two displays, side by side, slightly mismatched, and utterly impossible to ignore. One smells like heaven. The other? Like trouble... in the best way.🔸 On the left: The Pachamama Blendery, where Jipli peddles perfumes, incense, and oils with a nose like no other. Thanks to his rare aetherscent, his blends hum with emotion, memory, and maybe a tiny touch of experimental chaos. Every sniff's an adventure.🔸 On the right: The Dawn's Embrace Distillery, the pride of a thousand sun-soaked agave fields. Here, Kaplu serves up small-batch mezcal that’s equal parts tradition and trickster. Her mystery flights are infamous: smooth going down, unpredictable after.
Together, they bring you a marketplace of marvels.
Aromatics that dazzle the senses, and spirits that might just speak to yours (or make you speak fluent Mamool Ja).Come for the scent, stay for a sip, and don’t be surprised if you leave with a story.

Original "West"
Let's talk a little bit of the real history of cowboys and rodeos...
Rodeo
Rodeos are not the American "Texas" glory that has been shown by Hollywood and media. Originally, beginning in the early 1500's in Central Mexico, Mexican ranch hands known as "Vaqueros" held games and competitions to accustom cattle to human intervention. They began as games to show that men and women could perform feats of cattle handling, branding, roping, etc. All things that were demonstrated as typical ranch duties. From these events were then born the Mexican national sport "CharrerĂa" and their famous riders of the "Charro". It was the horsemanship of the cowboys that introduced horses and team roping as part of the sport. Cowboys at the time were communities made of Indigenous, Mexican, or Black men and women. It was a source of great pride for a rider to show their talents and abilities on the back of a horse. These communities together are who truly created today's rodeo. It wasn't until after the U.S. - Mexican wars of 1845 and the U.S. annexed and colonized Mexican territories to turn land into what is today's "Texas" that Buffalo Bill started what is modern history's rodeo scene. Unfortunately, once it became popularized to greater North America, promoters and wealthy white American's began to create committees and judging boards that actively banned and excluded any person of color and refused them prize money. It is only since the end of U.S. Segregation that rodeo's began to open their doors again "officially" in the West. However, many communities still face issues of racism today and you will find it difficult to learn about the true history. The style, clothing, sports, and vocabulary used for current rodeo events across the world began from Mexican culture and eventing. The horsemanship that we honor and find such pride in was born in the first cowboy communities brought together by Mexican, Black, and Indigenous men and women.

Cowboys
While the idea of the American West and "Cowboys" were popularized by Hollywood movies and shows like "Tombstone" or "Yellowstone" or video games like "Red Dead Redemption", it should be noted that all of the original cowboys were Indigenous, Black, or Mexican men and women. These were hard and often life-threatening jobs that required many hours in a saddle and crossing hundreds of miles of harsh climates. They were "undesirable" jobs but would allow decent pay and relative freedom if you could survive. These people who loved the land and had a bond with their horses were the navigators of the West and are the ones who thanklessly paved the roads into modern horsemanship. It was from them that cowboy culture and history was truly born.Modern ideas of the cowboy were harmfully stereotyped by white American Hollywood. Portraying a cowboy as a heroic white man on a horse and vilifying Indigenous or Mexican people. The stories of stolen land or hard labor or the genocide of native cultures were removed from the conversation for hundreds of years and cowboy "culture" was stolen by America. It has only been in the past handful of decades that this truth has been returned to history with extreme reluctance. Even now, it is difficult to find accurate records without mass misinformation you must first crawl through. It is important to know and honor these fearless men and women as they are. The proud Mexican, Indigenous, and Black history behind cowboys and cowboy culture that is so very beloved today.
